Late SAILADHAR BARUAH

We owe to Late Sailadhar Baruah who initiated the formation of this institute of Mass Communication. To be precise Assam Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research is the brain child of Late Sailadhar Baruah. Hence we all dedicate this institute to the fond memory of our friend the great soul Late Sailadhar Baruah.

Here is a few words on his life and works: Late Sailadhar Baruah was born in North Guwahati on December 25th 1941 to Late Padmadhar Baruah and Late Makan rekha Baruah. He did his schooling from Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School and graduated in Science from Pragjyotish College in Guwahati. A highly successful business professional, Late Sailadhar Baruah was also an eminent social activist and a renowned film producer of North East India. His love for arts and creativity resulted in the production of a number of critically acclaimed movies, many of which won national and international awards. Movies like Papori (1986), Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (1988), Firingoti (1992), Xagoroloi Bohudur (1995), Kukhal (1998), Pokhi (1999), Konikar ramdhenu (2003), Tora (2004) were some of his most noteworthy contributions to the film industry. Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese, GETZ prize (31st Chicago International Film Festival) and Pri Do Public Award (Best Film: Nantes Film Festival, France). He also did a commissioned programme for Doordarshan titled "Shruti MAdhur" in 2005.
