Who We Are
The unprecedented development of information technology has added a new dimension to the area of communication and journalism, opening new career avenues day by day. Parallely, a growing tendency is also seen among the new generation to get involved in the field of mass communication. Of late, 'Mass Communication & Journalism' has gained immense popularity among the youths of Assam and the neighbouring states as well. The latest trends in this sphere show wide prospect of employment in journalism, advertising and other fields of mass communication for the brilliant students of the North East not only in the region but also across the globe. Besides the incredible increase in the number of newspapers, journals and magazines in the state, several big business organizations have expanded their operations in the region. Unfortunately, most of the youth are deprived of the opportunity to study such professional courses. Thus to provide a platform for such promising young minds, noted film-maker and social activist, Late Sailadhar Baruah, with the help and co-operation of an able team of educationist, intellectuals, journalists and social activists, established the Assam Institute of Mass Communication & Media Research in 2007. This non-profit institute fulfils its goals by:
a) Developing and hosting practical tools and resources for
media education and research.
b) Initiating formal and non-formal media education programmes and curricula that enrich public understanding of media history, technologies, production and daily use.
c) Fostering information and technology professionals and consumers to encourage their mutual understanding and further collaboration.
Marching ahead on the road to success, powered by a truly modern philosophy of education, AIMCMR positively beholds a mirror to a bright and magnificent future for its students.
